Make Healthy Chicken Wraps with Yogurt Sauce at Home

Wrapped food items like burrito and shawarma are my kind of stuff. Here, I am going to show you a simple healthy chicken wraps recipe that you could enjoy with your family. If you are on a diet, it will already be a complete meal with carbs, protein, and vegetables. Enjoy this healthy chicken wrap with yogurt sauce on a family weekend lunch or a light dinner.

Healthy Chicken Wraps

I love Mediterranean flavors so I usually incorporate yogurt in my dishes. Check out my Grilled Lamb with Yogurt Sauce. I also used Pascual Greek Yogurt in that dish, though this is not sponsored.

One of the dishes I like is chicken wraps, which are healthy and refreshing.

Last weekend, I recreated it during our family Sunday lunch. I didn’t make my own pita wraps, however. That would be too tedious for me. Instead, I got the pita bread from a Bacolod shawarma maker, Mommy Tania Romagos of Eleven11 Shawarma Station.

So you see, you don’t have to do everything yourself to prepare restaurant-quality meals for the family. It’s a matter of knowing where to get the stuff you need for a certain dish. Imagine it, then make it. And don’t be afraid to share what you did in the kitchen that worked.

Here’s my healthy chicken wraps recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Fried chicken breasts
  • Yogurt sauce
  • Cucumber, peeled and diced
  • Pita bread (pre-ordered from a shawarma maker)

Cooking Suggestion: You may add diced green tomatoes, steamed carrot strips, lettuce, and onions. That should get the family to eat more vegetables. But I like it simple this way. So refreshing and filling, plus the kids like it this way, too.

Ingredients for Yogurt Sauce

The secret of these healthy chicken wraps is in the yogurt sauce. If you come to think of it, the wrap is quite simple with just 4 ingredients. But the yogurt sauce makes all the difference in the flavor. It makes the dry wrap and fried chicken burst with flavor and texture.

~ Make the yogurt sauce ahead of time. Allow at least 2 hours to chill in order for the flavors to mix well. ~
  • 2 containers Pascual Greek Yogurt
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 Tbsps. grated cheese
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. calamansi or lemon juice
  • Chopped parsley
  • 2 Tbsps Arla cheese spread (optional)

~ Arla cheese spread is optional. But it makes the yogurt sauce richer. ~

How to Make Fried Chicken Breasts

There’s not much a lot of fuss about this. Clean 2 chicken breasts. Slice them into thin layers, like 4mm thick each. Season with a bit of salt.

Coat in chicken seasoning and fry for a few minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

~ Fry the chicken fillet until golden brown. ~

Using a pair of kitchen scissors, cut up the chicken into strips. Place them on a serving plate and set aside.

Health Tip: To make our already healthy chicken wraps even healthier, steam the chicken instead of frying them. You get to omit the oil plus the chicken seasoning I used. But well, I prefer it this way because of the flavor.

Procedure:

Make the yogurt sauce by combining all the ingredients ahead of time and chill it. A couple of hours before the meal would do the trick of mixing the flavors together. Mix well before serving.

Prepare the fried chicken breasts and place on a serving plate.

Heat the pita bread on a pan without oil for about 15 seconds on each side while the stove is on low heat.

Assemble the Healthy Chicken Wraps

Place the ingredients side by side. Then let the members of the family assemble their own chicken wraps so that they can control what they want to put in.

~ Place the ingredients side by side and it will be the chicken wraps assembly line. Then it’s up to the family to make theirs. ~

But ideally, you place several slices of chicken, some cucumber cubes, and dollops of yogurt sauce in the middle of the pita bread.

Fold the bottom part up and roll the two sides of the wrap towards the center. Eat from the open end so that the ingredients will not fall off while eating.

~ Assemble the wrap. Leave space at the bottom, fold it up, and then fold the sides towards the center. ~

This is a fun dish to eat and can be a pretty healthy complete meal, too.
