Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo ushers its very first Yuletide season celebration with the theme “Paskwa sa Panai”. The concept focuses on Iloilo City’s naturally colorful and festive Holiday customs and traditions.
Paskwa sa Panai: Ilonggo Holiday Traditions
Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo goes all out to embody the spirit of Christmas and artistically combine it with Ilonggo traditions. Our family is happy to have seen all these elements woven together for an artistic and cultural Christmas celebration. We traveled from Bacolod City in the morning to catch the hotel’s tree being lighted up.
Paskwa sa Panai – Christmas Heritage
They have partnered with Cham Lopez, Balai Hablon , and Atelier de Hablon to come up with a contemporary yet classy and culture-based Christmas designs at the hotel. They have created higher value for local handwoven textiles and provided sustainable livelihood to the community.
The highlight of the hotel’s Christmas decor is Hablon. It’s a hand-woven textile used for clothes and tablecloths that originated in Miag-ao — the Iloilo capital of the hablon industry. It is taken from the word “Habol,” which means “to weave” in Hiligaynon. Traditionally, it is made with local fibers such as piña, abaca, and cotton.

12-Foot Christmas Tree
Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo has set up a 12-foot Christmas Tree at the lobby for the Christmas Tree Lighting program. It is mainly decorated with Christmas balls wrapped in hablon cloth, hablon angels, rattan balls, and stars made of Capiz shells. To complete the Christmas look, wrapped packages are placed under the tree.
The main idea of the hotel is not just to celebrate and highlight the local tradition of Iloilo City. They also to highlight and promote the talents of the local weavers and craftsmen inside and outside of Iloilo City.
The custom-made Christmas balls wrapped in hablon weaves and hablon angels were specially made by Balai Hablon. These were all woven in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
The group was formed by mother sewers and crafters in Sooc Social Ventures, Inc. in Iloilo City. Meanwhile, the rattan balls or Sig-id balls were crafted by locals from Visayan provinces such as Cebu, Iloilo, and Negros. The stars made of Capiz shells were also made by the craftsmen and women from Capiz Parol in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Holiday Goodies and Promos!
Paskwa sa Panai also officially launched the limited-edition Christmas goodies that are now available at the hotel. These are especially prepared by Chef Vance Bolivar, the hotel’s Sous Chef.
Home-made Christmas jams, cookies, hampers, and hams are up for grabs at the hotel. These are lovely artisanal gifts that you can give this Christmas.
Subsequently, part of the proceeds from the goodies will go to the SOS Children’s Village Iloilo. It’s a private, non-political, non-denominational organization that provides long-term family-based care to children in need.

Attending the Tree Lighting Ceremony
Our family traveled to Iloilo City so that we can witness the lighting of the Christmas tree at Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo. It was an heartwarming time for the kids, as they were able to meet some of the kids from the SOS Children’s Village.
Moreover, the SOS kids are going to be the beneficiaries of the hotel’s fund-raising for activity for Christmas.
The kids who were present also received SM Bears of Joy 2019. As many of you know, our kids have been supporting this program by SM Cares Foundation for several years now.
Afterwards, they were able to watch an awesome mini concert by Vien King and the University of San Agustin Troubadours.
