A woman is not just wired differently, they also have special health needs. As we end Women’s Month, we also end with this special emphasis on women’s health and wellness. Knowledge, experience, and grit should be coupled with physical health in order for a woman to reach her goals and enjoy her successes. Here is something else that all women should give attention to.
Pap Smear: The Importance of Women’s Health and Wellness
Most women get married and bear children. With that, they are expected to carry babies to full-term during pregnancy, bring them out with much pain into the world, and then exclusively breastfeed.
Despite balancing all the demands of home and parenting, there is also the admin side of homemaking as well as career goals.
Where do rest and relaxation come in? That is why for this year’s Women’s Month, we zeroed in on the most intimate topics about women’s health and wellness.
In the past articles, we tackled vaginal health and then the prevention of breast cancer with breast health examinations. Now, let’s talk about the pap smear.
What is a Pap Smear?
A Pap test, also known as a pap smear, tests and identifies cellular changes in the cervix, which could be caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus is a pathogen that can lead to cervical cancer in women. The test is usually done along with a pelvic exam and should be an important part of a woman’s healthcare routine.
Your healthcare provider or OB-Gyne can detect most cancers of the cervix early if you have regular Pap tests and pelvic exams.
According to Dr. Michelle Dado, an OB-GYN from De Jesus C. Delgado Memorial Hospital, women should start going through a Pap Smear once they turn 20 or 21. And this is applicable even if the young woman isn’t sexually active. This is because while 95% of cervical cancer cases are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus), other factors, such as smoking and HIV infection, can come into play and increase the risk for cervical cancer.
To assume women, having HPV doesn’t mean that you will have cervical cancer. Thus, Dr. Dado recommends that a Pap smear test be done once a year if you are not sexually active, and every 6 months if you are.
For Women’s Health and Wellness
To help provide more protection against cancer and other illnesses, Dr. Dado also recommends taking Organique Acai Premium Blend. It is a food supplement rich in antioxidants and vitamins and can be taken once a day before breakfast.
The Acai drink can also help stabilize free radicals, which are molecules in your body that can increase your risk of illness, especially cancer.
