With the re-emergence of the new normal society, we woke up to a new world where a lot of operations have shifted to digital—including colleges and universities. New high school graduates in Bacolod need to find a college that offers advanced and real-world courses without putting much pressure on their family finances. Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC) answers that need in Bacolod City. It is a digital-first college stamped with Mapuan academic excellence that was recently launched here in the City of Smiles. The first in the Visayas region, it is an internationally ranked, top IT school in the country. With that, they are offering two scholarship programs for Bacolod – Pioneer and Sidlak.
The Importance of Scholarship Programs
Many low- to mid-income Filipino families would want to send their children to colleges or universities for higher education. Unfortunately, finances hinder them because, let’s face it, college tuition, miscellaneous fees, and everyday expenses can be too much for minimum wage earners.
Thankfully, there are organizations or institutions that offer scholarship programs or financial aid to deserving students. These are high school students who exhibit the attitude and aptitude in their chosen fields but whose families are hard up.
During the pandemic, a huge percentage of breadwinners lost their sources of income when businesses closed down. Some have also spent their life savings on hospital bills when COVID-19 hit their family. It is not surprising then that the opening of classes can be really heavy on this population that is still reeling from the pandemic.
Any financial assistance or tuition condonation on college tuition is welcome news to the regular Filipino household.
At the newly-launched Mapúa Malayan Digital College, they are offering two scholarship programs for the coming school year 2022-2023.
Sidlak Scholarship
MMDC is an academic institution anchored on excellence, collaboration, and purpose. It hopes to cultivate the youth’s passion for learning and service, so it launched its Sidlak Scholarship.
This special scholarship program is exclusively for deserving young people in Bacolod City and neighboring areas. Coined from the Hiligaynon term that means “brilliance” and “brightness”, Sidlak Scholarship will provide tuition assistance to qualified incoming freshmen of Bacolod.
Who is qualified to apply for the Sidlak Scholarship?
All graduating Grade 12 students or high school graduates from any CHED-recognized school in Bacolod City and its nearby cities are eligible for the Sidlak Scholarship. All they need to do is to send in their applications.
Candidates should exhibit excellence in their educational achievements and in civic engagement. They should also have good moral character and should be willing to support student activities and networking among the students of MMDC.
How to apply?
In order to avail of the Sidlak Scholarship, the applicant must agree to submit and go through MMDC’s Scholarship Application Procedure:
1. Fill up the online application form. Click this link.
2. Applicants to this scholarship program must submit the following through email – admissions@mmdc.mcl.edu.ph.
- MMDC Sidlak Scholarship Program Form
- Certificate of Good Moral Character
- Recommendation Letter from Principal or Homeroom Adviser
- Two (2) 1.5″ x 1.5″ ID Photos
- Parents/Guardian Income Tax Return
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email and will undergo an interview with the MMDC Scholarship Committee. Scholarship deliberation is held a week after the end of the application period, June 15, 2022. All applicants will receive a notification via email from the MMDC Center for Scholarship for the next steps.
Pioneer Scholarship Program
Meanwhile, the Pioneer Scholarship is like a tuition subsidy. As the name suggests, the first 500 students of the school will receive a P20,000 discount on annual tuition fees.
MMDC follows a Trimester School Year. Without the scholarship, the annual trimester enrollment fee is approximately P77,000.
But with the MMDC Pioneer Scholarship, the student only pays P57,000 for the whole year, which only amounts to P19,000 per term. This means a savings of P20,000 for the entire academic year.
The good thing is, there is no qualification exam required. The student only needs to pay a P500 reservation fee to avail of the scholarship. Once he or she is confirmed to be among the first 500 enrollees, the student then qualifies for the tuition subsidy.
The Pioneer Scholarship is valid until the student completes the undergraduate degree with MMDC. The Computer included in the MMDC Plus package requires an additional agreement and payment/term.
Learning Hubs
Located at Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod and at Ayala Mall Cloverleaf in Quezon City, the learning hub is a center for students. It has internet access and safe, productivity-conducive, spaces for collaboration with classmates for projects, club activities, and study sessions.
You can take a virtual tour of the learning hub here.
