Experiencing the Mambukal Resort Overnight Stay
Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental has been there ever since I can remember. The first time I went there was when I was 4 years old, which was already 40 years ago. So yeah, you can do the Math. Haha But it wasn’t till recently that we were able to have the Mambukal Resort Overnight stay experience.
Revisiting Mambukal Mountain Resort
Mambukal is a natural forested area in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental. It is actually located at the foot of Mt. Kanlaon—the only active volcano in the province. It is blessed with so many indigenous species of flora and fauna as well as rivers and waterfalls collectively known as the legendary Mambukal Seven Falls.
The resort, with its buildings and attractions, was constructed according to the natural terrain and formations of the place. While it is just very near Bacolod City, it is elevated at 1,200 feet and surrounded by perennial trees, which makes the place cool, even during the summer.
We have been here a couple of years back and spent the day there. But now that the kids are bigger, we decided on a Mambukal Resort overnight stay to experience the place at night and early in the morning.
We went to Mambukal Resort after lunch, just in time for the required check in time of 2pm. The room was already cleaned and the sheets changed.
What to Expect
The rates are very cheap and for the price, the accommodations are worth it. We were billeted in the LGU Cottage that’s good for four persons that was worth PhP1,200.
With that affordable rate, we got:
- -4 single beds
- -air conditioning
- -small kitchen and dining area (you have to bring your own kitchen stuff and food supplies)
- -private toilet and bath
- -outdoor grill area
- -parking in front of the cottage
- -balcony with a verdant view
- -plastic chairs
The mattresses are not premium, so don’t expect orthopaedic beds. For those with back pain, this might prove to be a problem. I was armed with my painkillers–just in case my back acts up because of the mattress. The sheets were also thin, so you might want to bring your own sheets, blankets. And maybe pillows, too.
In our case, we just used what was provided and we were all fine for the night. We were too tired to complain. haha But if you are ginawin (easily feel cold), wear a sweater and pajamas at night.
Family Activities
After leaving our stuff in the room upon check in, we all changed into our bathing suits and charged the pool with the shallow area for kids. Then we also spent some time at hot sulphuric dipping pool. It is believed that the sulfur and trace mineral content of the water is therapeutic. So we braved the temperature, including Shane, just to spend some time there.
In order to cool off, we went back for more swimming in the pool before rinsing off and changing clothes in our cottage. Since this is a mountain resort, the facilities are rather far from each other and would take considerable distance to walk from one point to the the other. But it’s good exercise.
By the way, the LGU cottage that we got doesn’t have a television set and the internet connection is also not very stable. In this digital age, this situation is something novel.
Outdoor Activities for Kids
So we were able to pretty much do away with our gadgets and just spend time with the kids. We played together, took a hike around the resort, looked at the stars, identified plants, and had family meals together without being bothered by social media.
Other things you can do during the entire stay is go boating, take baths in the river, and visit the butterfly garden. Yes, Mambukal Resort has a small butterfly garden. If you visit early in the morning, you can witness the butterfly feeding. Your kids will surely enjoy this time — just like ours.
Food and Restaurants
Mambukal has several native restaurants serving the area. There’s no air conditioning—just open dining. Most of them served a lot grilled dishes and seafood. There’s also turo-turo (home-cooked dishes displayed in containers) that you can choose from. Prices are not very cheap and they are a bit higher compared to Bacolod restaurants serving the same food.
We had an early dinner and then selected the breakfast meals we preferred for the following day.
Afterwards, we took a stroll up and down the paved trails around the resort. It was a good time to just spend with the kids and expend their energy so that we could also retire early. After playing with them all day, hubby and I were also bushed! Our energies can no longer keep up with them! Mama and Papa definitely need more exercise!
The following day, we were too tired to get up early so we took a rather late breakfast and went on a last swimming hurrah. Check out time is 12noon.

How to Get to Mambukal Mountain Resort
Mambukal Mountain Resort
Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental
Tel. (034) 473-0610
To get there, you can go to the Murcia terminal at Libertad Market, Bacolod City and take one jeepney ride. It’s a big jeep and the the drivers usually wait until it’s full before leaving.
If you are not patient, you may also want to drive a private vehicle. The drive to Mambukal Resort takes between 40 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic conditions.
Mountain Scenery
We love the mountain scenery so we might as well have a Mambukal Resort overnight family stay from time to time. Prices are very reasonable and with more preparation, we could have saved more money. This vacation is totally friendly to the family budget.
The best thing is, we got to really enjoy our time with the kids without having to go on a long road trip or spend so much on a family-friendly hotel.
We are a homeschooling family and this is one of the best educational trips that we had. If we can sum up what the children learned, it’s this quote from Shane:
“If they (people) harm nature, they are harming themselves.”

We love Mambukal! This is the first place we visited after our wedding. And now our daughter loves it too! We’ve tried the dipping pool, the rivers, the butterfly garden, canoeing, and the trail. We plan to try camping there soon!
Have always loved this place since I was a kid. This time, will be revisiting Mambukal with our kiddos.☺️
Such a place to behold! Mambukal Resort is indeed so beautiful! I’ve always loved places that just scream of nature- the gardens, waterfalls, volcanic rocks, dipping pool, vintage atmosphere…I’m in love!
I have always loved Mambukal Mountain Resort. We have made so many memories here while I was growing up. As a young man, I spent some times of quiet retreat here. Now with the family, we have enjoyed swimming here so much!
Being without a signal is a blessing in disguise. Some places like this intentionally do not provide WiFi to their customers. I love the butterfly garden at Mambukal Resort! How lucky for the kids, I’m envious of their experience.
I’m not a fan of swimming but the sulfuric dipping pool is an exception—I would gladly change to a swimsuit and enjoy the hot spring water.? I just noticed tho that the water has gotten hotter over the years. My first visit was in 2002 and the dipping pool water then wasn’t as hot as it is now. But I love it any way.? Hoping to go back again this summer and have a fun time with the kids in Mambukal Resort. They want to try boating and going to the falls on our next visit.
Really? I thought I was the only one who noticed that the sulfuric dipping pool is getting hotter. Is it a sign from Mt. Kanlaon? Oh no. Not another volcanic eruption please.
And yes, I, too would like to go back to Mambukal, maybe in June for the mudpack festival . I haven’t experienced that yet.
Super nice place to visit and relax. Mambukal Resort is so breathtakingly beautiful and interesting, too! I’m sure your kids and family members enjoyed very well. I am interested in that volcanic, sulfuric dipping pool!
Wow Another beautiful place na surely maeenjoy ng buong Family…Super Ganda nakakarelax at napakapeaceful ng lugar
