Combi Recipes for Fun Snacks: It’s a Small Fun World After All

8Shares

The Filipino snack Combi became a hit, not only because of the crackers, wafer, and filling, but also because it has a fun-size available. It’s just the perfect size as baon for littles ones when they have face-to-face schooling or their snacks at home. Below, my daughters and I will show more fun ways to enjoy snacking while staying at home. These could be your fun activities at home while we wait out the quarantine brought by the pandemic. We bring to you four Combi Recipes for Fun Snacks.

Our Easy-to-Make Combi Recipes for Fun Snacks

We have been a homeschooling family for 7 years now. My husband and I believe that any opportunity is a learning time for the kids. We teach them life lessons that can be useful when they grow up. Since I love to cook, teaching the kids to cook is my forte.

The kids and I love to experiment in the kitchen. These are our bonding times plus I get to teach them life hacks and cooking skills, which I think are very crucial when they become adults. We do it in a fun and safe way while I supervise them.

Being the older kid at 12 years old, Achi Shawna can already cook on the gas stove, turn on the electric oven, or handle the hand mixer. Meanwhile, Shane can also slice ingredients using a real knife, grate cheese or vegetables, and mix stuff.

We are so happy to be able to come up with these Combi Recipes for fun snacks that I planned with them. Not only did they approve of them, but they also took part in the planning. Shane has her own ideas that we incorporated into all these creations.

Without further ado, here are our Combi Recipes for fun snacks.

Combi with Vanilla-Cream Dip

This is a basic vanilla custard cream dip that could be used for many things. It can be a filling, dip, or frosting. It’s just so good!

~ Your kids can smother the vanilla-cream filling onto their Combi crackers or use it as a dip. ~

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk (fresh or evap)
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 whole egg
  • 3 Tbsps. Cornstarch
  • 10 tbsps. white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 5 Tbsps. Butter

Procedure:

  • 1. In a saucepan, heat the milk until simmering. Turn the heat off when the milk is starting to bubble.
  • 2. While the milk is being heated, combine the egg yolks, egg, cornstarch, and vanilla in a bowl. Whisk it until the sugar and cornstarch are dissolved.

~ Temper the eggs by pouring half of the hot milk in a slow, steady stream. ~
  • 3. You will need to temper the egg mixture. Using a ladle or cup, scoop up some hot milk and slowly pour over the eggs while whisking. Achi Shawna did the whisking for me while I added about half of the heated milk into the eggs.
  • 4. Transfer the egg mixture back into the pan and turn on low heat. Cook while whisking or stirring using a silicone spatula. This only takes a few minutes to curdle, so do not leave it

~ The vanilla cream burns easily so keep stirring until you remove it from the stove. ~
  • 5. When the cream has curdled, turn off the heat and stir in the butter, mixing well until it’s blended. Remove from the stove, as the heat from it will keep cooking your cream.
  • 6. Immediately cover the surface of your vanilla cream with plastic wrap so that a film won’t form on top. Make sure there are no air bubbles between the cream and the plastic. When it is completely cool, transfer the vanilla cream into a jar and refrigerate. It could stay for at least 4 days inside the refrigerator.

You can use this as a dip or topping for your Combi crackers.

Combi Triple Choco Crema de Fruta

You can prepare this chilled dessert beforehand and surprise your kids with their afternoon snack. Here’s how to make it.

  • 1. Open a couple of packs Combi Triple Choco for a single serve. Lay them flat on a plate or small tray.
  • 2. Smother the top with vanilla cream (see recipe above) like frosting. Arrange slices of fruit cocktail as toppings. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.

Combi Triple Choco Balls

Shane was the project leader for this recipe. She said that we should not waste any part of the Combi Triple Choco, so here is what we did.

~ Shane with her Combi Triple Choco Balls. She was so proud of their creation. ~

Ingredients:

  • 8 packs Combi Triple Choco
  • ¾ to 1 cup crushed graham crackers
  • 1 cup condensed milk
  • ½ cup butter, sliced into squares

Procedure:

  • 1. Remove the cream filling from all the Combi Triple Choco crackers.
  • 2. Place all the crackers in a plastic bag and pound them. Shane wanted some texture in her chocolate balls so she didn’t crush them finely. Meanwhile, form little balls bigger than a pea from the chocolate filling. You will use this as center of your chocolate balls. This was Shane’s idea because she said she didn’t want to waste anything.

  • 3. Place the condensed milk and butter in a glass or ceramic bowl and microwave on low for a few seconds. You don’t have to wait until the butter is melted. Stir it up and it will just melt in the heated milk. If you don’t have a microwave, dump this in the saucepan and put on low heat for short while over the stove. Stir to make sure the milk doesn’t burn on the bottom of the pan.
  • 4. Add the crushed Combi Triple Choco crackers and grahams into the milk and butter mixture. Mix well and form into balls. Insert a chocolate filling ball inside.

~ Working together is one of the key things for me while teaching kids to cook. ~
  • 5. Arrange the balls you have made on a tray lined with wax or baking paper. Chill for at least 2 hours to harden.

Serving Tip

If you have a party and would like to make a dessert table, you can add these Combi Triple Choco balls to the menu. Make them more special by dipping them in UNSWEETENED melted chocolate and top them with candy sprinkles. Serve on cute cupcake liners.

Combi Triple Chocolate Cheesecake

Check out my basic recipe for a baked cheesecake. The only difference is that we crushed eight (8) pieces of the Combi Triple Choco crackers (wafer and filling removed). We also cracked several for the toppings. Isn’t this a fun cheesecake?
