The SM College Scholarship

College education had always set back many Filipino families because the high costs of tuition and miscellaneous. Thankfully, there are foundations that are dedicated to providing financial assistance to deserving students until they can graduate.

Since 1993, the SM Foundation (SMFI) has been helping deserving and qualified students from low-income households to finish higher education. They are given the chance to earn their bachelor’s degrees or advance in technical-vocational studies.

To date, the SM College Scholarship Program has assisted 5,500 Filipino scholars nationwide in completing their studies. 

Acting on a Vision

The SM College Scholarship Program started from the vision of the late SM patriarch, Henry “Tatang” Sy, Sr.

He believed that if you send one child from an economically challenged family to college, that child would have more opportunities for gainful employment. Eventually, this student will finish and later on help his/ her siblings as well as uplift the economic status of their family.

Extended Application

The foundation is now inviting incoming college freshmen to apply for the SM College Scholarship for the School Year 2021-2022.

There had been delays in the program because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In order to allow more graduating Grade 12 students time to comply with the application requirements, the foundation has announced that the application period has been extended.

Qualified applicants have until March 20, 2021 to submit the requirements.

Who is Qualified?

The SM College Scholarship Program is open to the following:

• Grade 12 graduates from public and private schools in the areas covered. For private school graduates, applicants should have the Department of Education (DepEd) voucher. He or she was able to finish Junior High from a public school;
• General Weighted Average grade of at least 88% or its equivalent for Grade 12 – 1st semester; and
• Total household income of at most P150,000 per year.
