The Frozen series of movies have given the traditional Disney princesses a fresh new look. With liberating concepts about life, career, and love, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna have become new idols for young girls. With Frozen 2, here are some life lessons for girls that we can learn from the movie.
Frozen 2 Has Lots of Life Lessons for Girls
Depending on how you view it, here are some awesome life lessons for girls that little ones can learn. After writing this, I will sit down with my girls and discuss these one by one.
SPOILER ALERT: For those who haven’t watched the Frozen 2 full movie yet, read at your own risk. There are some spoilers here. But I assume that we were the last family to watch it, so here it goes.
Not everyone is good at family games.
Many families have game nights. Some members excel and some don’t. Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf were playing Charade. The girls lost. But Anna said it’ okay because not everyone is good at games. Anyway, object of the activity is not just to test skills or to compete but to harness the bond of the family unit.
Sing when you’re sad and lonely.
Music is indeed good therapy. Throughout the movie, the different characters went on singing while battling different emotions. Hubby said that he got the High School Musical feels while watching Frozen 2 with us.
Pets are good for mental health.
From the beginning of the movie, it was already revealed that Kristoff was now ready to pop the big question to Anna. He already had an engagement ring ready but was too nervous and couldn’t find the opportune time. Sven was his confidante, who would even remind him if there was a good moment. When he finally orchestrated the big move with the works, he learned that Anna had already left with Elsa in search for the truth. He was sad and desperate and turned to Sven for comfort.

Don’t play with fire.
The fire spirit was embodied in a cute, wide-eyed, but agitated purple salamander. It was so tiny that it could fit Elsa’s hand. But don’t let it fool you because it can raze an entire forest in minutes. It’s like in reality. Playing with fire is like synonymous to tempting our sinful nature. A little taste can result to big problems and even sin.
Don’t worry and always look at the bright side.
For Frozen fans, you know who I am talking about. Olaf has always been about being nice, good, kind, selflessness, and positivism. He is like a walking sunshine made of snow, an irony about his cold nature. He is the half full kind of guy, seeing the good in every situation, even when things are bleak.
At the moment of his passing (when Elsa’s magic faded), he took it in a positive way and simply said goodbye to Anna. Before you wail, don’t worry, Olaf was “reincarnated.” Elsa had to ask again, “Do you wanna build a snowman?”
Good deeds are rewarded.
The good deeds that you do for people are not unnoticed. They are rewarded, even in the next generation. Your being a blessing to people today has a ripple effect. If it does not happen in your lifetime, it will in your children and their offspring. The elder of the tribe of Northuldra wondered why magic was bestowed upon the eldest child of Arendelle. That was because Anna and Elsa’s mom was a Northuldran who save the Prince of Arendelle’s life once.
Try different ways to tame your enemy.
The water spirit was the hardest one for Elsa to tame. It was embodied in a stallion. Elsa had to fight the water spirit many times but when she finally tamed it, the horse became her steady magical ride on land and on sea.
Don’t let fear drown you.
In the fight with the water spirit, Elsa was brought down the bottom of the sea. The water spirit pulled her way down in order to drown her. But her indomitable spirit prevailed. She was afraid but she didn’t let fear bring her down. She kept trying and got better with each try.
Fear can’t be trusted.
Do not do things out of fear. It seems that we are motivated to do a lot of things not because of love but because of fear. The movie teaches us that we cannot trust fear. Instead, we trust love and truth.
Take one step at a time.
Without seeing it, Anna knew that something bad happened to Elsa when Olaf started flurrying. The enchanted snowman felt that the magic in him was dying and so he told Anna. Eventually, he disintegrated in Anna’s arms. Naturally, the princess was devastated but in her song, she took one step at a time until the truth about their past was clear to her. She also realized what she needed to do in order to change the present and alter their future.
We don’t always need magic.
Elsa was literally frozen in some abyss in Ahtohallan–the magical place where her powers came from. It was up to her entirely human sister Anna to use her wit to survive the elements and use them to her advantage. In the end, Anna was able to change the course of history and rectify past wrongs while running around and shouting like crazy. Oh well, eventually Kristoff did give her a ride.
You can change the direction of the waves.
Anna’s actions led to the destruction of a dam that caused a tidal wave. It was enough to wash away the entire Kingdom of Arendelle. But because of her actions, Elsa was thawed and became more powerful than ever. With her power and will, she stood in front of the tsunami and built an ice shield to protect her kingdom. The tsunami was dispersed and water ebbed. Whew!
Stay humble.
Even from the first movie, we can say that Queen Elsa, despite her stature in the kingdom as a monarch and her magical powers, she is a humble person. And kind, too. We could all learn from her.
Strong women look good but wear pants under their skirts.
In this movie, Anna and Elsa wore designer frocks. They were beaded and bespoked, and animated to look Givenchy or Gucci. But these blue-blooded females are no damsels in distress. Under their customized outfits are pants (or leggings) that allowed them to run, ride, jump, and in Elsa’s case, tame the water spirit.
This is so liberating for young girls, because honestly, I used to cringe over Aurora, Snow White, and Ella Enchanted. Ugh. Disney, I love you for creating the Frozen princesses. I found them disgustingly sweet and frail. On the other hand, Elsa and Anna may be pretty and fashionable, but very strong and able.
I am so excited to get Frozen 2 costumes for girls for our daughters this Christmas!
Marry the person who has proven his worth.
We are given the idea that the setting of this movie is six years after Queen Elsa’s coronation and subsequent revelation of her power. So many things have happened and Arendelle has flourished under her reign.
It was only after all this time that Kristoff thought of proposing marriage to Anna. Elsa was happy for them when he finally had the chance to propose, which Anna readily accepted. And we know that through it all, Kristoff has proven his love, loyalty, and trustworthiness to the sisters and to the kingdom many times over. It was fine that he isn’t a prince, but a man who has a noble heart and good intentions. Again, another liberating concept for young girls.
Falling in love and marrying a prince that she just met used to be the central point in Disney stories. Now, the princesses think about their future husbands in a positive way. These are life lessons for girls that we should be teaching.
Keep your sister close …at heart.
Your sister is your best ally. Sisters are best friends from the same mother. She is your best ally, your only family after the parents are gone. Anna alluded to Elsa being the eldest and didn’t covet her sister’s position. They loved each other to death. Even if they weren’t together anymore in the end, they communicated regularly and established regular family nights.
Frozen 2 is Highly Recommended for Young Girls
I would highly recommend Frozen 2 for families, especially if you have daughters. Afterwards, discuss the movie with them and what they have possibly learned from it. It’s a beautiful and deep movie with lots of life lessons for young girls.
If you haven’t yet, you have to catch it before it’s gone in local cinemas. Set aside a portion of the family budget and catch the movie.
By the way, we watched the movie in the comfort of Ayala Malls Capitol Central cinema.

This made me emotional. I love reading the lessons from the movie and to be honest, I have not watched Frozen 2 yet. I am planning to watch it with Dirk when he is ready. Among the lessons, this made me speechless “Marry the person who has proven his worth.”, I have been married but been a single mom for more than 3 years. I am just glad that I realized that having failed marriage does not mean the end of everything, I have a son that needs me that matters the most.
