In line with the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Zonta Club of Bacolod organized a free self-defense class for women. The “Stay Safe: Self-Defense class” was held at the Bacolod
City Public Plaza.
Why the Need for a Self-Defense Class for Women
In this modern day and age, women are still being physically victimized whether at home, at work, or randomly, on the streets. Attackers can be anyone, whether somebody familiar or a total stranger. While we have limitations, it is still good to know some basic self-defense or even evasive techniques when put in difficult situations.
The self-defense class for women in Bacolod is in partnership with Alliance for Better Bacolod and the Local Council Against Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women. It was was led by Windell Billones and participated by about 50 women participants.
Notable attendees were Zonta President Reeda Bantug, immediate past president Clarissa
Araneta, Sectoral Division Head Carmeli Bantug-Zayco and Bacolod City Councilors Kalaw Puentevella and
Em Ang.
With all the challenges that women face in modern times, the self-defense class aims to mentally prepare a woman by enhancing her confidence. It also envisioned to help women have the self-efficacy to protect themselves in times of being threatened with physical assault.
Aw. Ang galing naman. Sana meron din samin nito. We, as a woman we need this.
