Motherhood is tough in itself because taking care of kids can already be hard in itself. Couple that with homemaking, career, and other adulting duties, and it’s not surprising that moms get overwhelmed at times. It just depends on your pain threshold and pressure tolerance. And I am not exempt from all that so a body massage at the Amarah Massage Clinic in Bacolod was a treasured mommy treat.
When Mommy Spirits Sink
There are strong women and there are strong mommies. But we all have breaking points, just on varying levels.
Sometimes, our breakdowns can be caused by circumstances, or sometimes, they can be caused by certain people. But most of the time, we get battered the hardest when we are betrayed or bullied by the ones we love–the people closest to us. Family.
I have experienced that last week that my spirit was really crushed.
Thankfully, hubby and the kids are shoulders I can cry on and they tried to cheer me up in the best way they know. The kids showered me with hugs and kisses and even gave notes on Mother’s Day. Yes, the pinnacle of all the drama happened on Mother’s Day that I cried my eyes out in frustration.
The ending was a really bad headache that got me taking 500mg of painkiller and sleeping with an ice bag.
This week is much better after I decided to cut communication with those who have hurt me. It’s not about forgiveness anymore. Rather, it is having the space to breathe and be myself again.
The Amarah Massage Clinic in Bacolod
Additionally, hubby took me for a mid-week Mommy Treat at the Amarah Massage Clinic in Bacolod. Located at the Paseo Verde, Mandalagan, Bacolod City, it was quite a quick drive from our home.
They open early at 10am, so we scheduled a 10:30am visit. And it was a good call because we were the only ones there. The place is clean and the predominantly blue and white interiors proved to be very calming.
We were made to fill up their contact tracing form then we got to choose our service. We were asked the standard questions related to the new normal then we had a temperature check. We were then set to go inside and have our much-anticipated body massage.
Hubby had the Swedish Massage while I had the combination of Swedish and Thai massage. Swedish massage is the most relaxing massage with mild pressure and mostly long strokes. But I also needed some stretches for my back pain, which is why I chose the combination.
We were then led to their dimly-lit massage room with aisles guided by blue LED lights. The beds are spaced apart and separated by curtains. Before the massage, they soaked our feet in warm water to remove dust and debris.
Then we indulged for 1.5 hours of peace, quiet, and total relaxation. The piped-in music with the sound of babbling waters was so soothing.
Why Go to a Spa?
Before the pandemic, I would go to a spa at least once a month and order home service at least every two weeks. Not only does a massage good for my sore muscles and aching body, massage actually relaxes me. For a couple of hours, my mind is relieved of all the mental pressure of the day.
When Covid-19 happened, all that was stopped. The close contact with the therapist during a body massage was too scary with the viral threat. I had to contend with our stay-in helper’s massage from time to time.

But it’s just so different when you go to a spa. Besides professionally trained therapists like at Amarah Massage Clinic, going to the spa physically removes you from your usual spot. It could be your workplace or the home that you love, but sometimes, you just need a break. That is why going to the spa was such a relief for me.
Now that we have a better understanding of Covid-19, I am slowly coming out of our rock. I just choose the places to go and I keep my face mask on all the time. Yes, while having a massage, our face mask is on plus our therapists are also wearing theirs. That is for our mutual protection.
But still, I do not go out unnecessarily, like you know just to go malling or to have coffee with a friend. For me, going to the spa is a necessity for my mental health and overall wellness.
Wear your face mask inside the spa, even while the massage is going on.
