Best vitamin supplement for Kids
Dindin has not been a very healthy kid in the sense that she gets allergic over the littlest allergens. She would easily get afflicted with common colds, which will then become cough. I have decided to boost her immune system instead of giving her antibiotics. So I am doing a little experiment on different brands of vitamin supplement for kids.
I cannot do much about the allergens in our home, but I can make her healthier. That has been my motivation.
Appetite Stimulant
At home, mealtimes with Dindin can be very stressful because she eats very little. It seems that she is controlling her fod intake.
And this applies to all kinds of food–healthy, sweets, or junk. It seems she has a very little stomach and after she has finished a meal, it takes very little for her to throw up everything that she has eaten in a matter of 5 seconds. It is really frustrating.
Additionally, she is also very energetic. She likes active play and it seems, she could not settle for a few minutes on her seat. She is not hyperactive, she just likes toying with things. Her mind seems to be working on a very fast pace and her body wants to follow suit. Bringing her to play areas is a must to spend her energy.
Common Ailments
To top it all, her toddler years weren’t easy because she got sick with cough and colds almost every time. It was like she would only be well for a week or two and then she would get sick again.
And because of the amounts of phlegm in her respiratory track, she can barf three to four times a day. It was not nice having to clean up her vomit all over the room. I was really pissed to the ends of my hair. But what can we do? So I have committed to improve her general health in order to better fight diseases.
Sometimes, I feel bad for not being able to fully breastfeed Dindin. If I was only able to give her my own breast milk, she might not be as sensitive to allergens. We all know that one of the benefits of breastfeeding is having kids that have a strong immune system.
Allergic Rhinitis
It was not after about a year later that it was established that her cough was actually caused by allergies and she did not really have asthma. The root cause is allergic rhinitis. Since then, I took the effort to build her immune system and to get to her to eat well, just so her body can fight common ailments.
We had given her four doses of protein builders through the years (as prescribed by her pediatrician). We have also spent so much money on a premium milk brand that is supposed to make her gain weight as well as to improve her health. But nothing helped.
Vitamin Supplement for Kids
So far, I have noticed though that if I give her a new brand of vitamin supplements, her appetite would improve for like two weeks to one month. But if I keep on giving her the same kind, it would lose its effect on her. I thought of rotating her vitamin supplements, one brand at a time. After she finishes a bottle, I will change it again to another brand.
Thankfully, because of my winnings in an online raffle as a Bacolod mommy blogger, I was able to start my experiment. I won P1,500 worth of Unilab products and with that, I asked for different kinds of vitamin supplements from them the company. These are Nutrillin, Nutroplex, Appebon Kid, Tiki Tiki Star, Enervon Syrup, and Growee.
Dindin has already finished a bottle of the Appebon with Iron. Two days ago, she started with Growee. Aside from the vitamin supplement for kids, she also takes Ceelin Plus for a separate dose of Vitamin C.
Her vital statistics as of January 19, 2014.
- Patient’s Name: Dindin Lo
- Age: 4 years and 10 months
- Height: 41 inches
- Weight: 14.5 kilos (32 lbs)
After 6 months, I will measure her height and weight again and will update you on what happened. I am hoping to see positive changes in her, now that I am closely monitoring her health 😀 It’s not only for her, but also for my own personal happiness as a mom to see her grow healthy.
i think experimenting with vitamins is not bad, sometimes we need to look for the hiyang vitamins for our kids,i will wait for nxt post, i would like to know if appebon is effective..
I have a toddler too and I can totally understand you. It’s so hard for my son to gain weight although I’ve given him vitamins everyday. His Pedia said that it’s ok because he’s getting tall and that his weight is just right for his age.
experimenting of vitamins is a delecate way but when you have knowledge on thefield of medicine, there,,you dont have to worry
yes, it is really necessary too to experiment whats the good vits to our kids, for me i also tried some other vitamins that my little girl could gain enough weight in her age.
Same problem here. I have a toddler too and like you I am having a hard time what vitamins is really good for him. He’s a picky eater too, that’s why his weight is not right for his age. Haven’t tried nutrillin and appebon before. But his pedia said that it’s okay to experiment other vitamins until I saw the good outcome to my son since he has no allergic reaction to any liquid substance.
i have tried every vitamins available in the market…at first ok but after a week or two wla nanaman gana kumain..all that she wants to eat is banana and mangga..minsan puro bread lang..i want a vitamin that works really well…and long lasting
Wow I got the same problem with my weight I had been under weight ever since I was younger until now I can seem to gain weight easily and now I am starting to take vitamins as well and it is Sangobion. 🙂
it’s my first time to heard a experimenting with vitamins. i think di naman siya masama sa health coz its only a daily food supplement? i have a same problem with my son naman. he’s such a picky eater pa naman. gusto niyang laging kainin yung mga tinitinda sa fast food store’s and other junk foods most of them pa is sweet’s! tiki tiki star ang vitamins niya. but i think di niya ka hiyang. maybe i should change the brand nalang . nice post btw!! now i have the idea hehehe thanks 🙂
yes sis. try and try until you find one that works for him 😀
its not bad to experiment with the vitamins, me too im experimenting on my child’s vitamin because he is so picky
I don’t have problems with regards to my son’s weight or height. He eats almost anything except for the papaya and ampalaya. I am experimenting too on vitamins now. I am giving him Enervon but I just noticed recently that any supplement with ascorbic acid doesn’t have iron in it because these two can’t be together, as in “they’re not meant to be”. Hehe! I want to give my son an iron supplement sana but I’m clueless as what to give him. Hay…
Ask your pedia sis. 😀
Yes, experimenting on vitamins is a good idea why would you stick to a vitamins that you very well know its not working, its a waste of money and Kids nowadays really need a good vitamins to low the risk of being sick. Our little trace vitamins now is ceelin so all is good for him.
I haven’t thought about this experimentation actually. I must say that I always depend on what pedia (or even to vet) most of the time to give us multivitamins for kids. And if the supplement doesn’t work, I’ll go back and ask again. I wish one day I can have that courage though hehehe.
I am sorry to hear that she has been so sick and her immune system is low at the moment . I do hope that since using the ‘Ceelin plus’ that she will able to grow more and be able to have a healthier appetite. Its always important to find the right vitamins.
Vitamin Supplements are great if we take care about it actual effect vs side effects…there are many children who are facing the same weight gain problem…so the mommies over here can find some good tips for the same.
I think supplements can be very beneficial for children, especially when they have a restricted diet.
I did not know you could give kids supplements. I mean, I was getting magnesium shots when i was a kid as the doctor had prescribed it but never did i try vitamins
Really? Yeah, I give multivitamins for kids to my daughters every day. 😀
I believe taking vitamin supplements in moderation and combining that with a healthy nutritious diet. It gives the best results 🙂
Thanks for the great info about vitamin supplements. I know that I would have liked to have this when my daughter was younger and struggling with health issues. This would have been so helpful.
Will be interesting to see your update in 6 months. We give our children kids vitamins to help boost their health and immunity and it has really helped them be less susceptible to coughs and colds and they have more energy.
I have tried all the Vitamins supplements to my kids. My first born and secord born was so picky when it comes to eating always may Tira na naiinis po tlaga ako.
